1966.

What an unforgettable year 1966 was for the people of Scotland.

On the 11th June, 1966, Fettercairn began the journey of distilling their oldest single malt to date, creating the elegant 50 Year Old that we have before us. It's the only reason why it is such a memorable year for the Scottish people.

At the base of the Cairngorms, you’ll find the Fettercairn distillery growing in stature, just like the building itself appears to be growing out of the Aberdeenshire scenery. This distillery is quickly re-establishing itself to be less of a dark horse and more akin to its symbolic unicorn - iconic, spirited and pure. As for the 50 Year Old release, that we are gathered here to pay tribute to, it begin life in an American white oak ex-bourbon cask. Its final few years before bottle life came in the form of a tawny port pipe, giving it an edge that complements the vintage old whisky with just a touch of youthful fruit.

Yet, we wonder how many will unleash this mystical creature around their tastebuds. To let it roam wild and free-flowing or keep it within the secure boundaries of your own field of whisky, that is the question.

Here's to making life choices, whatever your age. Sláinte.
