About the distillery
The distillery was founded in 1971 by John Haig & Co. Between 1985 and 1989, production was suspended and the distillery closed; it was then reopened and in 1992 started producing a Mannochmore single malt.
In 1996 the black Loch Dhu ("Black Loch" in Scottish Gaelic) single malt whisky was introduced, and has been gaining market favour despite (or because of) the rather unusual appearance and taste. After a brief re-closure in 1995, the distillery only produces for twelve months and then has a break of twelve months alternating with the nearby Glenlossie distillery, with which it shares the employees.
Other Information
This Mannochmore 18 year old single malt Speyside Scotch whisky formed part of Diageo's 2009 Special Releases. This unique expression of Mannochmore has been assembled from a combination of reconditioned bodega European Oak, bourbon casks, and new American Oak casks.
It was distilled in 1990 and aged for 18 years in mix of re-charred ex-sherry bodega European Oak with re-charred ex-Bourbon and new American Oak casks that had also held sherry, filled in 1993 after a short initial ageing in normal refill cask and then bottled at its natural cask strength of 54.9% ABV.
It is a limited edition of only 2,604 individually numbered bottles - this is bottle number 2,350.
Please ensure that you undertake close up viewing/inspection prior to placing any bid. Lots will be sold as seen and described.
Insurance against breakage or loss during transit is available at checkout at a cost of 3.5% of the hammer price.
Due to the various ages of bottles and their seals, condition of liquid is at the buyer's discretion and no claim can be lodged against leakage in transit.
