About the distillery

Stitzel-Weller was a former distillery founded in 1935 before closing in 1972. A number of notable brands have been produced under the Stitzel-Weller name including: W.L Weller, Old Fitzgerald, Pappy Van Winkle and Old Weller to name a few.

The Stitzel-Weller brand was eventually sold due to a depression in the sales of Whiskey with the popularity of other spirts growing. After going through many different merger's and acquisition's, Diageo decided to re-open the facility in 2014. As of 2017, the site of Stitzel-Weller is mainly used for ageing with one still in operation. They produce around a barrel a day which is mainly used for experimentation and research.

Other Information

This very rare bottle of 16 year old Stitzel-Weller Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, Twisted Spoke, was a one-off single barrel bourbon bottled by Julian Van Winkle in 1999 for the Twisted Spoke Bar in Chicago. Bottled at 105 proof.
