About the distillery
Glen Mhor distillery was founded in 1892 by John Birnie (formerly Managing Director of Glen Albyn (1910 to 1916 mayor of Inverness) and John Mackinlay under the name of Glen Mhor ("glen vohr", Scottish Gaelic gleann mhor), named after the tectonic rejection of the Great Glen in which it lay. The distillery began producing whisky on 8 December 1894.
On March 8, 1983, the last whisky was distilled and the buildings were demolished in October 1986. Today there is a supermarket on the site.

The Rare Malts selection comprises a stunning selection of whiskies from operational and lost distilleries which were bottled by Diageo between 1995 and 2005.
