About the distillery
The Glenrothes is a single malt Scotch whisky, produced at the Glenrothes Distillery, beside the Burn of Rothes in the Speyside region. The Glenrothes is used in blended scotch whiskies such as Cutty Sark and The Famous Grouse. The Glenrothes Distillery is owned by Edrington.

- This lot offers the buyer the opportunity to own one cask of Glenrothes which was distilled in 2008, held in bond at our Still Spirit Warehouse.
Originally filled with Glenrothes spirit on 19th June 2008, the whisky was re-racked in February 2020 and has since been maturing in a European Oak Oloroso Hogshead (#681301)
The cask was re-gauged in February 2024, summarising the following:
- New bulk 230.8 litres | New strength 64.6% ABV | 149.1 litres of alcohol.
This would currently yield approximately 329 x 70cl bottles of 15 Year Old cask strength Glenrothes whisky.

Tasting Notes:
COLOUR:
Yellow gold, with hints of pink.
NOSE:
Lovely lemon drizzle citrus with marzipan. Vanilla notes mingle with faint butterscotch. Very light with no hint of fire and spice, just some oak that counteracts the sweetness. Traces of honey and white chocolate underscore the overall sweetness, but the lemon and oak keep everything balanced.
PALATE:
Sweeter than expected, but with a beautiful buttery creaminess that works well with the vanilla and butterscotch, to give a full balanced taste sensation. It is mouth-watering from the citrus, but this begins to dry to the end, with a slight liquorice and marzipan nuance. A little spice keeps the interest and peppers through the initial sweetness.
BODY:
Sweet buttery softness that fills the mouth.
FINISH:
Medium length with the buttery texture lingering till the end.
IMPORTANT:
- Annual storage fees will become payable by the buyer. Insurance is charged at 1% of the value of the cask together with a storage fee of £50 per annum. - Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Hammer. Funds will be held by Whisky Hammer until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.
- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
- Non-UK buyers must appoint a duty representative to act on his/her behalf for transfer of ownership of the cask. Still Spirit can act as duty representative for casks stored at their warehouse if required.
- Please note if the new owner is a UK revenue trader (business or private individual connected to the trade), they will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate.
All regauges performed by Still Spirit Ltd are purely estimates of the Bulk (L) and ABV of the spirit and a tolerance of at least +/- 5% of Bulk should be expected. Actual results can only be confirmed upon bottling. Still Spirit Ltd will not be held liable for any variance from regauge data provided to actual results on bottling.
Consumer protection laws do not apply to purchases from private sellers. More specifically, the right to reject (section 20 of the Consumer Rights Act) does not apply. Buyer's rights are significantly reduced when a sale is carried out between two individuals. Goods from private sellers do not have to be fault-free and if defects or marks were clearly mentioned in our description and lot photos, then you do not have a case against the seller. However, if the seller's goods do not match the description, you have the right to ask for a refund on return of the goods to us.
