This lot offers the buyer the opportunity to own one cask of Ben Nevis which was distilled in 1998, held in bond at the Ben Nevis distillery.

Originally filled with Ben Nevis spirit on 27th November 1998, the whisky has since been maturing in a Refill Hogshead (#1399).

The cask was re-gauged on the 26th July 2023, summarising the following:

- Original bulk 240 litres | Original strength 63.6% ABV | 153.8 litres of alcohol.

- New bulk 146.4 litres | New strength 55.4% ABV | 81.27 litres of alcohol.

This would currently yield approximately 209 x 70cl bottles of 24 Year Old cask strength Ben Nevis whisky.

TASTING NOTES:

COLOUR:
 Bright golden yellow.

NOSE:
Hard candy pear drops with tropical fruit – there are pineapples, mangoes combined with some malt biscuit.  A very soft and delicate nose.  The nose does mellow to a soft barley sugar sweetness that slowly falls to warm heather honey.  Finally, there are touches of old polished leather that gives the bouquet an elegant roundness.

PALATE:
The sweetness and the tropical fruit dominate over a spicy peppery heat.  The spice and heat linger long and makes the mouth water as lemon peel flavour circulates as an undercurrent.  The tropical fruits return to augment the citrus and swirl beneath the spice.  The barrel a little vanilla that appears faint on the palate. 

BODY:
A mouth filling malt that is distinctive and warming.

FINISH:
Long finish with the spicy heat that is underscored by lemon and tropical fruits, with a pinch of chilli.

IMPORTANT: 

 - Annual storage fees (currently 35p per week) and any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

 - Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Hammer.  Funds will be held by Whisky Hammer until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction. 

 - Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond.  The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.

 - Non-UK buyers must appoint a duty representative to act on his/her behalf for transfer of ownership of the cask (Whisky Hammer can assist in finding a UK representative if required).  The duty representative will need to be registered with HMRC and will normally charge an annual fee for the service.

 - Please note if the new owner is a UK revenue trader (business or private individual connected to the trade), they will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate.
