About the distillery

Littlemill distillery was a Scottish malt whisky distillery in Bowling, West Dunbartonshire. Situated on the border of Lowlands and Highlands, its products were generally classified as lowlands whisky.  The year when whisky was first produced is uncertain. Littlemill was described as part of the purchase of Auchentorlie Estate in the 1750s. In 1772 houses had been constructed for excise officers, which is also the year Littlemill claimed as its foundation year, from which it claimed to be the oldest distillery in Scotland.

Other Information

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Littlemill single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 1992.

Originally filled with Littlemill spirit on 25th March 1992 the whisky has since been maturing in a Barrel (#635) which is currently held in bond at Inverhouse Distillers.

The cask was re-gauged in June 2022, summarising the following:

 - New bulk 144 litres | New strength 52.4% ABV | 75.5 litres of alcohol

This would currently yield approximately 205 x 70cl bottles of 30 Year Old cask strength Littlemill whisky.

Please note:

1) the cask photo shown is for display purposes only and is not the actual cask being sold.

2) the sample is shown for confirmation of the colour only and is not included in the sale.

Unofficial tasting notes:

COLOUR:
Old honey gold with a tinge of mahogany.

NOSE:
Light and floral with deepening dried fruits that invite you into this closed distillery’s expression.  True to style there is meadow and grass underneath, but the wood and dried fruit muffle like a duvet, giving a sweet and soft nose that is beguiling and enticing.

PALATE:
This age of Littlemill shows off the true style and character of this revered distillery.  There is citrus, with orange  into lemon; the sweetness lies deep within and the famed oak astringency powers through on the end.  Sweet, pleasant, and well structured, this is old school Lowland malt that is a perfect restorative or try it with dessert.

BODY:
Medium, sweet, and orderly - a faultless Littlemill.

FINISH:
Short and sweetly cleansing with the power of the spice staying in the background.

IMPORTANT:

 - Annual storage fees and any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.

 - Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Hammer.  Funds will be held by Whisky Hammer until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

 - Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond.  The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.

 - Non-UK buyers must appoint a duty representative to act on his/her behalf for transfer of ownership of the cask (Whisky Hammer can assist in finding a UK representative if required).  The duty representative will need to be registered with HMRC and will normally charge an annual fee for the service.

 - Please note if the new owner is a UK revenue trader (business or private individual connected to the trade), they will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate.
