About the distillery
Arran distillery is a whisky distillery in Lochranza, Scotland, the only distillery on the Isle of Arran.
In 1994 Arran Distillers was founded by Harold Currie, former director of Chivas with the intention of building a distillery on Arran. During the construction of the distillery, a pair of Golden Eagles built their nest on a cliff near the distillery; since Golden Eagles are a protected species, construction of the distillery was temporarily halted. The distillery opened in 1995.
Other Information
This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of Arran single malt scotch whisky, distilled in 2005.
Originally filled with Arran spirit on 21st November 2005, the whisky has since been maturing in a bourbon barrel (cask number #05/047) which is currently held in bond at the Isle of Arran Distillers.
The cask was regauged on 18th February 2022 summarising the following:
- New bulk 141.9 litres | New strength 52.1% ABV | 74.7 litres of alcohol
This would currently yield approximately 202 x 70cl bottles of 16 Year Old Arran whisky.
Please note:

2) the sample is shown for confirmation of the colour only and is not included in the sale.
Unofficial tasting notes:
COLOUR:
Very pale gold.
NOSE:
A mellow nose brimming with beautiful stoned fruit aromas of apricot and ripe peach, underscored by delicate floral notes. Way back in the aromas you can detect subtle washes of sweet vanilla oak and a crumbling of digestive biscuits.
PALATE:
The sweetness of the nose is present, but the oak has a little more spice and bite to enliven the vanilla. Overall, there is a delicate balance of the fruity florals and the fire of the spice that tilts slightly towards its softer nature, for a moment then back to the spice where orange citrus makes an appearance with marmalady depth.
BODY:
Medium with a lingering of gingery marmalade.
FINISH:
A sweet finish that tingles with ginger and orange.
IMPORTANT:
- Annual storage fees (currently £40pa) and any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer.
- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Hammer. Funds will be held by Whisky Hammer until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.

- Non-UK buyers must appoint a duty representative to act on his/her behalf for transfer of ownership of the cask (Whisky Hammer can assist in finding a UK representative if required). The duty representative will need to be registered with HMRC and will normally charge an annual fee for the service.
- Please note if the new owner is a UK revenue trader (business or private individual connected to the trade), they will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate.
