About the distillery
The Macallan distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Craigellachie, Moray. The Macallan Distillers Ltd, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Edrington Group which purchased the brand from Highland Distillers in 1999.

This lot offers the fantastic opportunity to own one cask of single malt scotch whisky, distilled The Macallan in 1988.
Originally filled with Macallan spirit on the 5th May 1988 the whisky has since been maturing in a refill butt (cask number 4180) which is currently held in bond at the Macallan distillery.
The cask was regauged on 14th March 2022 summarising the following:
- New bulk 374 litres | New strength 51.5% ABV | 193 litres of alcohol
This would currently yield approximately 534 x 70cl bottles of 33 Year Old Macallan whisky.

UNOFFICIAL TASTING NOTES:
COLOUR:
Amber gold with a yellow halo
NOSE:
An exciting, yet reassuring nose of salted caramel drizzled chocolate brownie. Sweet yeasted rolls drenched in honey, barleysugar florals and chocolate ice cream. All restrained with a background of fresh orange marmalade and neroli with a drying hint of tobacco leaf. Mesmerising.
PALATE:
Waves of sweetness carries and mingles mature oak and library leather bound book dryness. This breaks into a regal spice mix of nutmeg, ginger and ground coriander, over a wash of ginger perkin biscuits, soft buttery dates and freshly baked apricot Danish pastries. This is a masterclass in sophistication.
BODY:
Medium to full mouthfeel that is unctious and slightly nutty.
FINISH:
A long finish of honeycomb, sweet orchard fruits counterpointed to an influence of dry oak.
IMPORTANT:
- Macallan Distillery require that this cask is moved from their warehouse by the 10th of June as a condition of sale. This will be the responsibility of the buyer upon purchase following completion of the transfer.
- The buyer will also be liable for an administration fee payable to Edrington to transfer ownership.
- Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Whisky Hammer. Funds will be held by Whisky Hammer until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.
- Ownership of this cask is auctioned in bond. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
- Non-UK buyers must appoint a duty representative to act on his/her behalf for transfer of ownership of the cask (Whisky Hammer can assist in finding a UK representative if required). The duty representative will need to be registered with HMRC and will normally charge an annual fee for the service.
- Please note if the new owner is a UK revenue trader (business), they will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate.
