Caroni's Global Legacy
An elusive gem
The Caroni distillery closed its doors for production in 2002. In December 2004, the CEO of Velier, Luca Gargano, visited the island of Trinidad and came across the old Caroni distillery boarded up and, to his surprise, a warehouse full of rum barrels, which would go on to be some of the most highly coveted rums produced.
In 2005, the distillery's doors closed and its machinery silenced, Caroni rum transformed from a local favourite to a global legend. The scarcity of its remaining stocks, resulting from the distillery's untimely demise, turned Caroni into an elusive gem sought after by connoisseurs and enthusiasts. Its complex flavours and rich history became a testament to the artistry that once thrived within the walls of the Caroni distillery.
With the last remaining stock now bottled, Caroni is one of the world's most sought-after rum's.
